Media Release - Local leader to champion community for The Pines Wind Farm
Respected Oberon community leader Glen Stewart has been appointed as The Pines Wind Farm’s Community Representative, strengthening local engagement as the $7.5billion renewable energy project continues to take shape.
A well-known figure across the Oberon district, Glen has called the area home for nearly 30 years. He currently serves as President of the Oberon Show Society, Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Oberon, and a Board Member of the Oberon HealthCommittee.
Glen previously managed the town’s Commonwealth Bank branch and worked as the region’s Rural Financial Counsellor. He has also served on the P&F and P&C Committees of St Joseph’s Catholic School and Oberon High School.
Through his professional and volunteer roles, Glen has built strong relationships with farmers, small business owners and local groups across the region. With his wife, a third-generation Oberon resident, he has a deep understanding of the values, traditions and connections that make the community unique.
Glen will act as a key point of contact for the community, attending public meetings, sharing updates and ensuring local perspectives are heard throughout the wind farm’s development.
The Pines Wind Farm will establish a $5 million Major Project Fund to deliver long-term social and economic benefits for the Oberon LGA. The fund will support major legacy initiatives identified by the local community, with an advisory committee – to be established in the coming months and led by Glen – to guidehow the funding is invested, ensuring decisions reflect local priorities and aspirations.
Glen said he was honoured to take on the role and encouraged locals to get involved in shaping the $5 million Major Project Fund.
“This is areal chance for the community to have a say in how the funding is invested,”Stewart said.
“I’d love to see people from across Oberon, Black Springs, Burraga and Trunkey Creek put their hands up to join the advisory committee and help identify the projects that will make the biggest difference for our region.”
Stromlo Energy Director Matthew Parton said Glen’s appointment reinforces the project’s commitment to openness and collaboration.
“Glen’s reputation for fairness, community spirit and practical problem-solving makes him the ideal local resident to join The Pines team,” Parton said.
“His appointment adds to our local presence helping us stay connected and responsive to what matters most to the community.”
TagEnergy Managing Partner Andrew Riggs said the $5 million Major Project Fund demonstrates the project’s long-term investment in the region.
“This fund is about ensuring The Pines Wind Farm’s positive impacts are felt well into the future,” Riggs said.
“Glen’s leadership of the advisory committee will ensure the chosen projects will meet the community’s long-term needs.”
The community is encouraged to reach out directly to Glen with any questions, ideas or feedback about the project.
